Its official, DD-214's are NOW Online.

The National Personnel Records Center (NPRC) has provided the following
website for veterans to gain access to their DD-214s online: http://vetrecs.archives.gov/
This may be particularly helpful when a veteran needs a copy of his DD-214 for employment purposes. NPRC is working to make it easier for veterans with computers and Internet access
to obtain copies of documents from their military files. Military veterans and the next of kin of deceased former military members may now use a new online military personnel records system to request documents. Other individuals with a need for documents must still complete the Standard Form 180, which can be downloaded from the online web site. Because the requester will be asked to supply all information essential for NPRC to process the request, delays that normally occur when NPRC has to ask veterans for additional information will be minimized. The new web-based application was designed to provide better service on these requests by eliminating the records center’s mailroom processing time.

Hmmm

Doctors
• The number of physicians in the U.S. is 700,000.
• Accidental deaths caused by Physicians per year are 120,000.
• Accidental deaths per physician is 0.171.
(Statistics courtesy of U.S. Dept. of Health Human Services)

Guns
• The number of gun owners in the U.S. is 80,000,000. Yes, that is 80 million.
• The number of accidental gun deaths per year, all age groups, is 1,500.
• The number of accidental deaths per gun owner is 0.000188. Statistically,
doctors are approximately 9,000 times more dangerous than gun owners.
(US Gun Statistics - Various Sources)

Remember, "Guns don't kill people, doctors do."

FACT: NOT EVERYONE HAS A GUN, BUT ALMOST EVERYONE HAS AT LEAST ONE DOCTOR.

PLEASE ALERT YOUR FRIENDS TO THIS ALARMING THREAT. WE MUST BAN DOCTORS BEFORE THIS GETS COMPLETELY OUT OF HAND!

The easy & fun way to check for errors in XP

Although ScanDisk is gone, Windows XP includes an error-checking feature called Check Disk. It's just difficult to find.

1. In My Computer, right-click the hard drive name and select Properties.

  1. On the Tools tab, click Check Now.
  2. Select "Automatically fix file system errors." Also select "Scan for and attempt recovery of bad sectors." Click Start.
  3. You will probably have to reboot the computer for Check Disc to start and it may take an hour or more to complete the five stages of the process

Run this regularly to keep your computer in tip-top shape.

Free PDF writer

Here’s one I really love. Everyone knows that PDF documents are the universal format that can be read by anyone with Adobe Acrobat (also free). However, most people believe that in order to create a PDF document you need the full-scale version of Adobe for hundreds of dollars. Not so, described below is a great FREE program that performs the task just as well (disclaimer – at least it seems so to me)

Create PDF documents on the fly — for Free!

Portable Document Format (PDF) is the de facto standard for the secure and reliable distribution and exchange of electronic documents and forms around the world. CutePDF Writer (formerly CutePDF Printer) is the free version of commercial PDF creation software. CutePDF Writer installs itself as a "printer subsystem". This enables virtually any Windows applications (must be able to print) to create professional quality PDF documents - with just a push of a button!

FREE for personal and commercial use! No watermarks! No Popup Web Ads!

Download it from:

http://www.cutepdf.com/Products/CutePDF/writer.asp

The way it works is that once installed after you have created a file (Word, Excell, etc.) you click on “print.” When the “print” dialogue comes up click on the drop down box to select the printer, except you select “Cute PDF printer” from the list and then o.k. You will be then prompted to name it and choose where the file is to be saved (Directory/folder). Now you have your document saved as a PDF file, which you can then send by E-mail to anyone to read. You can also save the document in it’s original format.

Break through voice mail hell

The site GetHuman has compiled an extensive database of “secret” customer service telephone numbers that get you to a human, circumventing the annoyance of voice mail. Among the general tips: press zero numerous times or in combination with the # or * keys. GetHuman offers sage advise for clearer communication when you can’t understand a non native English speaker.

Directory Assistance

In case you haven't noticed when you use Directory Assistance (411) on your landline or cell phone you incur a nice fat charge of anywhere from $.75 to $ 1.25.

However, I have learned of a great service that is FREE.

Just dial 1-800-FREE411 and they will search for the number. This is particularly good if you need a number when using your cell phone (at home you can use the web based directories).
